Gaudete Sunday Getting Ready to Rejoice

A break tomorrow from the austerities of Advent...Rejoice!

And another version...

And, yet another version...

Exploding A Popular Heresy

Millenarianism is a heresy, period. This belief holds that there is a period of Christ's kingdom on earth like some sort of peaceful kingdom.

When Christ returns, it will be the end of the world. That is Catholic teaching.

Remember also, that it is the teaching of the Church that there are and have been many anti-Christ's.

Here is the Pope Emeritus on this point.

As far as the antichrist is concerned, we have seen that in the New Testament he always assumes the lineaments of contemporary history. He cannot be restricted to any single individual. One and the same he wears many masks in each generation. —Dogmatic Theology, Eschatology 9, Johann Auer and Joseph Ratzinger, 1988, p. 199-200

And, here is the CCC on the point of millenarianism.

The Antichrist’s deception already begins to take shape in the world every time the claim is made to realize within history that messianic hope which can only be realized beyond history through the eschatological judgment. The Church has rejected even modified forms of this falsification of the kingdom to come under the name of millenarianism, especially the "intrinsically perverse" political form of a secular messianism. —Catechism of the Catholic Church, 676

Those who seek after such specific knowledge have fallen into the sin of Gnosticism. See other posts on this. There are many sites on line which claim to explain Catholic teaching which are totally in error.

Just remember this-when Christ returns, that is the end of the world and the final judgment. See my other posts on this.

No, the good will be rewarded and the bad punished as natural and supernatural consequences for sins. From Christ's Own words down to the present time, Catholics have held the Final Judgment as part of our basic belief.

Note from Raissa's Journal Part XXI Perfection Series VIII

In 1931, the Maritains continued hosting retreats for their group of Thomists, at which Fr. Garrigou-Lagrange gave the talks and said Mass.

In this year, about 150 people attended. What struck me about the Journal entry was Raissa's comment that the group was unified in thought and faith and of one mind.

Can one imagine finding 150 Catholics today like this?

I remember years ago when a priest told me that if one got seven Catholics around a table for a discussion, there would be seven different views of doctrine and practice.

Sad days...when I can go for weeks without meeting an orthodox Catholic who is not off in some way either with regard to doctrine, practice, or devotions.

Do you think we shall ever see such unity among the laity again?

On Animals and People Grade Two Lesson

The lack of understanding among the clergy and the laity as to what baptism actually does has led to so much confusion, I hardly know where to begin. Follow the tags for a start. This confusion is connected to the confusion about the nature of human souls and animal souls.

That people do not see themselves as changed by baptism is a tragedy of this lack of catechesis. That people do not know the difference between animal and human souls is a tragedy of the laziness of most of the laity not studying their Faith.

Again, the lack of training in the seminaries with regards to the teachings of the Church throughout the ages and the solid teachings of Thomas Aquinas has led to much confusion.

Repeat from grade school:

Humans have immortal souls.

Animals have mortal souls.

Humans are made in the image and likeness of God/

Animals are not.

There is a hierarchy in creation. And since God became Man, man is actually raised up higher.

Heaven is not a new Narnia. It is not material.

We have intelligence and reason. We have free will. In these things, we are made in the image and likeness of God.

Animals do not. They have instinct.

We are responsible for our actions.

Animals are not.

Humans can have and do have an awareness of God.

Animals do not.

Human beings demand a dignity animals do not. We can eat animals.

The joy we get from our pets is a shadow of the joy of heaven. We shall not need pets in heaven.

Sigh, too bad the Pope did not get Thomas Aquinas in seminary, or if he did, he forgot it.

Thank God for the strict limits of infallibility.

Baptism makes us heirs of heaven and children of God.

Sorry, animals are neither.

Great Idea from A Reader-St. Lucy's Apostolate

One of my readers suggested to me that there should be a group of people, an apostolate, praying specifically for those orthodox Catholics who have fallen under the spell of false seers.... like a "ghost busters", against false apparitions, team.

I am involved in praying for the third order needs I am in and, also, I pray for my readers' intentions as well as those of my friends and family.

If some of you feel inclined to join such a group, I would join you in prayer as well as I already do this and have had Masses said for those following false visionaries. This commitment set forth here today is purely informal.

I shall call this the St. Lucy's Apostolate, as her name means light.

If you feel like you want to add those who are caught up in The Warning, True Life in God, Medjugorje and even Bayside (still), as well as other false visionaries, please spiritually join the St. Lucy's Apostolate. I would like to see how many commentators would add there prayers for this important need.

Some orthodox communities are being torn apart by those who insist on following false visionaries. Satan delights in deceit and division.

St. Lucy, pray for all of those caught in the lies of heresies and false visionaries. Bring them to Mary, Our Mother, who will give them graces to see the lies and false teachings. Let Christ, the Light of the World, shine into their minds and hearts and move them to study the beautiful teachings of the Catholic Church, increase their knowledge, and disengage them from seeking consolations in experiences. Help these good people learn to live in faith, hope, and charity. We also pray for those who falsely proclaim visions, and even benefit materially for these deceptions. Lord, have mercy on them and help them to repent. Let the truth shine forth from the hearts and minds of all Catholics.

Amen.

OK, A Rant on Heroes Are Not Squeamish

squea·mish

 adjective \ˈskwÄ“-mish\
: afraid to deal with or do things that might hurt or offend people
: having an unpleasantly nervous or doubtful feeling
: easily shocked, offended, or disgusted by unpleasant things

I am so tired of Catholics in certain quarters not wanting to see the remains of aborted babies or the pictures of the Holocaust.

To be so nice about denying murder and torture is not the stuff of the Church Militant. We shall be facing the end of Christianity in many countries, and abortion is part of this fight for life.

To be squeamish is not a virtue of saints. Margaret Roper bribed someone to get the head of her saintly father off of the spike. I saw the skull of St. Thomas More years ago by chance. I also saw the wounded skull of St. Thomas a Becket. Brave people honored the dead. We honor dead babies by showing their bodies. We should feel uncomfortable and mourn.

We can either face reality and grow strong, or hide under niceties. We should be offended by abortion and shocked by photos. That is the point. Sin is shocking.

Grow up, Catholics.

Caught Up in Chaos

So many Catholics do not see what is happening. I am aware of much more persecution of the Church in so-called civilized nations which I am not free to share on this blog.

But, let me share this. We are all going to be caught up in chaos just by being Catholics.

Whether we desire to suffer or not, this type of suffering will happen soon.

Even peripherally, some of us will be involved in the persecution of others who have been more public, more brave than we are.

Do not kid yourselves on this subject of being involved because you are Catholic.

All Catholics will soon have to make serious decisions about their Faith.

In the past two days, two things have happened in European countries which have seriously impinged on the ability of priests to preach the Gospel and the truth of the Catholic Church.

Some lay people have chosen to back down from confrontations which others have brought into their worlds. Some Catholics want the Church to change teachings in order to avoid confrontations with national governments. They are afraid. To compromise seems a good to these people who cannot see how these compromises their very salvation.

I try and tell people this protection because of compromise will not happen, but people are becoming so afraid, they are being encouraged into believing safety is in cooperating with evil. I understand this fear and instability. I have known that as a blogger I am more vulnerable than most Catholics. All Catholic bloggers will fact the decision as to whether to continue or not in the face of growing opposition to the topics we cover. But, all educators and preachers are vulnerable. Very....

One must balance prudence with ministry. This takes prayer and discernment.

To think that Catholics will be able to avoid chaos and the result of chaos is naive.

As I have written before, when nations become paranoid, they look for scapegoats. Read my series earlier this year marked in the tags about Rome, February 24.

The Christians in Rome lived very low-key lives. Yet, they became seen as a great threat to the government which demanded that all people conform to the state religion.

The state religion of the West is now gross secularism, which denies both natural law and absolute truth. Those of us who know the truth are seen as threats to those supporting the institutionalized denial of God's law and man's real nature. The soul is being denied. When that happens in law, chaos will follow.

Families will be affected as individuals are affected. Religious brothers and sisters will be affected, as well as priests and bishops.

The greatest persecution of Catholics the world has ever seen, including that of the old Soviet Union and China, will come upon us all.

Support those who have the freedom to write, make videos, make television shows, etc. Support your Catholic bloggers. Some groups will be able to continue longer than others, but one reason God put me here is to see the army of the enemy pushing towards the trenches. The language of warfare is the necessary vocabulary for the spiritual warfare we are seeing increasing in both Europe and America.

Take advantage of the freedom we know and now have for a short while.

You will not have such clear teaching as you have had to date in the future. Pray for me and some others who are facing the world alone without a community. We are moving rapidly into dangerous times, and you all need to seek community.

I have already been affected personally, and things will get worse. Pray for me to find that community where God wants me to be very quiet and pray. The days for blogging are numbered, believe me. Today and yesterday, I had personal warnings of this reality.

I may have to tell you one day very quickly that the blog is ending. Do not be surprised by this.

The two virtues one must develop at this time are prudence and wisdom.

Pray for those in yourself and in me.
